SHAKER HEIGHTS – The Hanna Perkins Center for Child Development, a 501(c3) non-profit organization, has announced professional programming offerings this fall that support the work of day care providers, social workers, teachers and caregivers for young children. All of the programs are certified to provide continuing education units.
The programs include:
Recognition and Prevention of Child Abuse & Neglect: This course is mandated by the state of Ohio for teachers and operators of day care centers and preschools. A full 2-session version is offered for $60, and a one-session refresher course is just $30.
Helping Young Children Grow: A signature offering in early personality development, this course is designed specifically for parents and anyone who interacts with, or cares for, young children on a day-to-day basis. Conducted over weekly 11 sessions, it covers basic principles in the development of a child’s personality – including relationships; the significance of needs and urges; and development of learning, speech and self-control. Cost for the class is $99.
More information and registration for these and other educational offerings is available at www.hannaperkins.org/category/education/.
About Hanna Perkins
Since 1951, The Hanna Perkins Center for Child Development has served children and families across Northeast Ohio by promoting understanding of the inner emotional life of children. Its work is founded on the knowledge that a child’s behavior is a means of communicating important feelings and emotions that he or she may not yet have the ability to put into words.
Located in the historic renovation of the former Malvern School in Shaker Heights, Hanna Perkins provides these services:
Hanna Perkins School, offering preschool, a state-chartered kindergarten, and parent/toddler classes. The school focuses on emotional intelligence – the ability to understand and manage feelings – which is regarded as a building block for other success skills.
Continuing education and training to teachers, day care providers, social workers and other child-care specialists across Northeast Ohio.
Hadden Clinic for Children & Families, providing developmental guidance and therapy for children and adolescents, including the specialized technique of Treatment Via the Parent.
The Reinberger Parent Child Resource Center, offering drop-in play for young children and their parents/caregivers, and educational opportunities based on the Hanna Perkins approach to child development.
Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Training, through an intensive program that prepares professionals to provide psychoanalytic therapy to children and adolescents, and to work closely with children’s parents.
Hanna Perkins is an approved Continuing Education Provider for counselors and social workers. Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, & Marriage and Family Therapist Board Provider #RSC019904.
