Helping Children Express Their Mad Feelings is an Ohio Approved bullying prevention curriculum for children ages 3-6 – appropriate for use in preschool and kindergarten classrooms.
Known more simply in the classroom as My Mad Feelings, the curriculum is structured in 6 chapters.
It engages young learners through stories, activities and small-group discussion, and provides them with important tools for identifying, modulating and communicating the strong emotions that arise from everyday social interactions. Handouts and optional programs for parents support reinforcement at home of the social-emotional skills students are learning.
The program is designed for use in public school systems, private and parochial schools, and early learning centers. Hanna Perkins Center customizes the curriculum to the specific needs of each contracting institution. Hanna Perkins can provide it on a turnkey basis, or we can provide Ohio Approved training for your own team members to teach it. Other adaptations include the number of sessions (typically 8-12); length of each session; consultation time with faculty and staff; and parent engagement activities to support your efforts at home.
Depending on circumstances, cost for the program can often be subsidized through grants.
The program has been utilized by Shaker Heights Schools, and Urban Community School, among others.
It was nominated in 2015 for the Anna Freud Educational Achievement Award of the American Psychoanalytic Association for psychoanalytically informed work with Pre K-12 educators, schools and their students. It also was one of only seven programs selected to participate in the 2015 “bigBANG! Fast-Pitch” competition by Social Venture Partners Cleveland.
