• 3 hours hours in 1 session

Participants will review and discuss why toddlers get aggressive, ways toddler show aggression, and why toddlers need aggression for their development. Participants will learn how to help toddlers contain their aggression and redirect aggression to more productive feelings . Participants will also learn how to protect toddlers from inside aggression and outside aggression. Group activities and presentation is required.

Objectives

Participants will understand why toddlers need aggression; why toddlers become aggressive and  the ways toddlers show their aggression. We will discuss how to identify behaviors toddlers exhibit when they cannot contain their aggression.

Participants will understand the ways toddlers are exposed to aggression, how to provide a secure and nurturing environment. Participants will understand the importance of understanding the “why” of the aggression instead of  trying to control the aggressive behaviors. We will discuss ways to help toddlers redirect their aggression to productive actions.

  • Competency: 2.2 Assists children in identifying and expressing their feelings in culturally and socially acceptable ways and gathers information from parents regarding effective strategies to support children.
Participants will review a case study and identify: why the child is aggressive; how the toddler is showing their aggression; is it inside or outside aggression; what is their understanding of the aggressive behavior shown and how they will help the toddler contain the aggression and move it to a more productive action.
Participants will present their case to the group for questions and comments.

Participants will review learning points of training and share how they will implement what they learned in their daily routine when working with children.
