Creating an Emotionally Safe Preschool Classroom: Responsibility, Respect, and Relationships

Participants will understand that behaviors are a means of communication for young children and how to help children master their aggressive impulses in the classroom. Common situations will be presented and discussed so participants will demonstrate an understanding of how to implement the information presented.

Objectives

Participants will review child development and typical behaviors of toddlers through kindergarden. Participants will review the long term effects on children who were never taught to respond to their angry feelings in an appropriate way.

Participants will learn how to encourage children to respond to their angry feelings by: modulating the level of the feeling, using appropriate words, and learning how to regain their kind feelings when someone has been unkind to them. Groups will discuss common classroom scenarios  and problem solve a solution.

Participants will learn how to help children understand the difference between being mad and being mean; understand that mean fun is hurtful to others, and how to control aggressive impulses.Participants will discuss common classroom scenarios and problem solve a solution.
