Understanding the difference between guidance and discipline and guidance, the effect of the child’s perspective on disruptive behaviors and classroom management. Being able to reflect on your own classroom and identify possible adjustments that will prevent disruptive behaviors. Understanding the relationships between providing a respectful classroom and encouraging self-discipline and responsibility in young children. We will share ways to motivate children that prevent disruptive behaviors. Group discussion and case presentation is required.

Objectives

  • Participants will explain the difference between discipline and guidance during the discussion.
  • Participants will identify what causes disruptive behaviors in the classroom.
  • Participants will discuss and reflect on their own classroom practices and identify the practices that should be eliminated or added.
  • Participants will discuss and identify the relationship between providing a respectful classroom environment and classroom behaviors. Participants will identify ways to increase self-discipline and responsibility in the children they teach and identify the best ways to reinforce positive behaviors.
  • Working in groups, participants will discuss classroom situations and identify what caused the disruptive behaviors and how to help the children learn to control the disruptive behaviors.
