HPC Upgrades Technology in Distance Learning Room

Dec. 18, 2023

SHAKER HEIGHTS – Hanna Perkins Center for Childhood Development (HPC) received a technology grant from the Perkins Charitable Foundation to redesign and upgrade its existing Distance Learning Room. New technology has been installed to create a flexible learning and meeting space with capability to host live, virtual and hybrid experiences.

The room now includes a Smart TV, a dedicated computer and an Owl Labs video conferencing camera that delivers high-quality audio for all involved — while helping remote participants keep track of who is speaking through its autofocus feature.

The technology upgrades are part of a larger grant from the Perkins Charitable Foundation which supports improvements in the patient intake process, simple video communications and webinars. It includes funding for an upcoming podcast series, as well as transitioning the Center’s server contents to a cloud-based system.

“This funding helps us adapt to better meet the needs of our staff, board members and professionals who participate in our continuing education programs. It’s part of our ongoing effort to use technology to increase our capacity and broaden the impact of our work,” said Karen Baer, HPC’s Chief Executive Officer.

The Perkins Charitable Foundation, based in Cleveland, primarily supports education, arts, environmental conservation, animals, wildlife, health and medical care, and children, youth and social services causes, both locally and nationally. The foundation was originally funded by the same Perkins family that provided early support for Hanna Perkins Center.
