Participants will understand their role as Early Childhood Professionals in helping families and children during stages of gender development and identity. Participants will review theories of gender development, the stages of gender development, and how to provide support to children, as they explore their gender choices. Participants will understand that this is a time for children’s exploration, and children have many questions about who is a boy and who is a girl, which is developmentally appropriate. Participants will receive information to share with families, which will help them through this stage of development.

Participants will understand how an anti - bias curriculum can teach children acceptance, tolerance and respect for others. We will learn how young children are affected by their family's prejudices, no matter how subtle, and how children benefit from an anti-bias curriculum and environment. Participants will explore their own feelings about prejudices and stereotypes. Participants will learn how to set up their classroom, what materials to include, and to be aware of the subtle stereotype materials/phrases that exist in today's world.
