Preschool The Preschool provides a setting where children are supported in mastering separation from their parent (or primary caregiver) in the process of developing a relationship with their teacher and learning how to function on their own in a classroom setting. Children are helped to enjoy learning, make choices according to what makes them feel good about themselves, and develop social skills. Parents play a very active part in all of our school programs. There is a separation/orientation period of three weeks or more as a child enters the school. Our experience has been that a mother's availability during this time provides the support and encouragement necessary for her child to develop a relationship with his or her new teacher. In addition, throughout the duration of a child's enrollment at Hanna Perkins, his or her parents meet on a regular basis, usually weekly, with a staff child analyst – a child development specialist. Parents are welcome to visit during the school year. These visits are arranged in advance with the child’s teacher.
