Kindergarten The Hanna Perkins Kindergarten provides a structured setting in which children are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their own learning and are helped to acquire the academic skills necessary for first grade. Children are helped to find pleasure in learning and are assisted in developing internal controls to manage behavior, as they are helped to recognize and use their developing conscience. KINDERGARTEN DAILY SCHEDULE 9:00 Children arrive 9:00 - 10:15 Free Choice Activity and Learning Centers: Children do assigned activities which include; math/numbers table, letters/reading table, writing, listening center, art table, science table, puzzles, blocks/building and word processing/computer 10:15 - 10:30 Snack - Children in three groups with own table teacher at beginning of year, open snack later in the year 10:30 - 10:45 Morning Meeting - To discuss calendar, finger plays/songs and discuss plans for day 10:45 - 11:05 Morning Learning Groups: New concepts, skills or perception activities involving cognitive learning are introduced to and practiced by children divided into groups 11:05 - 11:10 Clean up and set tables for lunch 11:10 - 11:45 Outdoor Play: Includes large motor/climbing activities, group games, team sports, dramatic play and nature/science projects 11:45 - 11:55 Wash hands and get ready for lunch and story groups 11:55 - 12:10 Story time 12:10 - 12:40 Lunch 12:40 - 12:55 Quiet Activities - Drawing, reading, puzzles, and games 12:55 - 1:20 Unit Projects - Afternoon Learning Group which can include crafts, building, science, and music 1:20 - 1:30 Get ready to go home |
