Hanna Perkins School The Hanna Perkins School provides an educational curriculum that is individually tailored for each child. Our unique developmental approach focuses on the inner life of each child as well as on his or her emerging skills and capabilities. Our school includes a:
Since we recognize the essential role that parents play in the development of preschool age children, our model is one that closely involves parents in all of our programs. In addition to regular meetings with their child's teacher, parents meet weekly with a child analysts with whom they share observations and discuss the nuances of their child's development. Through insights gained parents are able to support their child's efforts to achieve mastery in areas of self-care and in the essential task of understanding and putting words to feelings. While our model enhances the development of all children, it is uniquely well suited to assist parents in helping children for whom developmental challenges and/or emotional difficulties have emerged during their preschool years. Young children may especially benefit from our "treatment-via-the-parent" when difficult to master experiences occurred at an early age, before language skills were sufficiently available to allow for adequate preparation and understanding. While medications are increasingly prescribed for such children, we have found that our intensive, long-term, relationship-based approach to addressing early conflicts achieves success without the use of psychiatric medications. When emotional obstacles or developmental delays are mastered during the preschool years, children enter elementary school ready to learn to their full potential.
