The Development of Self-Regulation Leading to a Conscience

Participants will identify characteristics or exchanges between the early parent and child relationship that are necessary in order for emotional regulation to become self-regulation in the child. These important early interactions lead to conscience formation. Participants will discover how children move from relying on an external authority to increased autonomy in self-regulation and how this affects a child’s self-esteem.

Observing and Recording Child Behavior (Infant & Toddler)

Participants will define the difference between “looking at” and “observing” children in their work and play. Through writing practice, participants will demonstrate their understanding of the difference between observation and interpretation.
