Thomas F. Barrett, Ph.D.

Dr. Barrett has been the Executive and Clinical Director of the Hanna Perkins Center for Child Development since 1991 and serves as a member of the Center’s training Faculty. 

He is an Associate Professor at the CASE School of Medicine where he holds the John A. Hadden, Jr., M.D. Chair in Psychoanalytic Child Development. 

Dr. Barrett is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Ohio Psychological Association, and the Association for Child Psychoanalysis where he has held office as Councilor and, for the past six years, has served as Treasurer.  He is a founding member and Vice President of the Alliance for Psychoanalytic Schools.

Dr. Barrett holds degrees in Child Development and Clinical Psychology and undertook post-graduate training in Infant Mental Health with Prof. Selma Fraiberg.  He completed child analytic training through the Hanna Perkins Center.  From 1986-1990 he worked with Erna Furman on the Hanna Perkins toddler research project, which culminated in the publication Toddlers and Their Mothers.   Dr. Barrett has published a variety of professional papers and presents regularly at conferences at local, national, and international venues.
