Professional Training

“As part of my clinical training, I observed at the Hanna Perkins nursery school for one month.  I consider it the gold standard of my education.  I go back to the experience all the time when I’m working with troubled children and families.”
- Jeanne Heiple, Child Psychiatrist

The Hanna Perkins Center provides opportunities for field placements, internships, and post-doctoral fellowships in psychology, social work and related fields.  This includes training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with children.

Since 1958, we have offered training in child analysis to a select group of students who already have degrees in psychology, social work, teaching, nursing, medicine, or other disciplines in which the major focus of their work is the care of children.  Over the years more than 40 candidates have completed this program as fully qualified child psychoanalysts.

There are currently more than 20 candidates in analytic training through Hanna Perkins.  Several participate from distant locations through our video/teleconferencing capability.

Access the following links to learn more about our treatment approach and our field placement, internship, fellowship and child analytic training programs.
