Through our Extension Division we offer ongoing professional development via courses, workshops, and consultations. These services are designed for early childhood educators, child care providers, counselors, psychologists, social workers, child life specialists, and other professionals working with young children and their families. Topics and participants’ experiences are addressed in a respectful and supportive atmosphere under the guidance of child psychoanalysts. Courses, workshops, and consultations assist participants in understanding what children are communicating through their behaviors and how they, as professionals, can use this understanding in helping children grow. Hanna Perkins is authorized to provide CEU credit for childcare providers, preschool educators, counselors, psychologists, and social workers. Consultations We offer ongoing consultation for groups of four or more professionals who work in similar settings (e.g. a group of childcare center directors, a group of counselors, or a group of primary school teachers). In addition, we provide child-focused consultations to organizations and communities interested in addressing the developmental needs of children. For agencies with limited budgets, we are able to facilitate the process of applying for grants to cover a portion of the costs to run these professional development programs. Courses & Workshops Courses and workshops are offered upon request. We offer single 3-hour workshops as well as 8 and 16-session courses that meet for 90 minutes per week or every other week. We are able to offer these programs off-site or at our facility in Shaker Heights. Daytime and evening hours are available. Periodically, several facilities work together and we are able to offer courses or workshops on-site to groups of colleagues working at programs in close proximity to each other. Courses and workshops require a group of eight or more participants. When an individual is interested in attending a program, we will try to coordinate placement within an existing group. Our instructors can arrange courses and workshops around requested topics. Traditional offerings include: Understanding the Behaviors of Preschool Children Helping Young Children Grow (child development) Preschool Children with Difficulties Classroom Management Working with Parents Working with Toddlers Separation and Transition The Recognition and Prevention of Abuse & Neglect The fee for programs is arranged on an individual basis, considering both the cost to Hanna Perkins of providing a program and the group’s ability to pay. The average cost for an 8-session course (90 minutes per session) is $1200. The average cost for a 3–hour workshop is $300. When a group can not pay the full cost, we can arrange for scholarship funds to make up the difference. For a listing of our current courses please access the following link:
