Process of Referral & Intake
Children 5 and Under – Ms. Barbara Streeter, 216-991-4472 x107 Children 6 to 18 – Dr. Jamie Wetzel, 216-991-4472 x550 Clinic Intakes (Ages 6 to 18 years): At the time of the initial contact, the clinic intake therapist is available to answer questions about our services and to learn about the family’s concerns. If a family chooses to proceed with an evaluation, the intake therapist will ask for basic information that will help in assigning a clinician. We are usually able to assign a therapist within one week’s time. Typically, the person assigned for the evaluation will be available to continue with the family if therapy is begun. On average, evaluations involve four to ten sessions and begin with parent sessions. Once the evaluation is complete, a recommendation is made regarding treatment. Clinic Intakes (Ages 5 and Under): The clinic intake process for children under five is the same, however calls for this age range are directed to Barbara Streeter, the school admissions director, who will help the family decide whether to proceed with a request for services through the clinic or through the school. School Intakes (Ages 5 and Under): Families interested in our therapeutic toddler group, preschool, or kindergarten will be invited to visit the school to learn about Hanna Perkins before making decisions about applying. One of the first considerations for parents wishing to place their child in the school program is whether they are able to support their child’s participation in the school through work with a therapist and the teachers. This includes the parent’s need to be available for the four to six week separation/orientation process, for ongoing transport of their child to school and from school which ends at 1:00 or 1:30 pm., and for weekly meetings with the therapist who will work with them on behalf of their child. When parents are clear they wish to apply for the school, the school admissions director does an evaluation. A therapist is assigned once the evaluation has been completed and reviewed by the school’s admissions committee. Please note that we are unable to recommend schools for children who are beyond kindergarten age.
